In 2005, The Carmel TomatoFest invited 50 of California's most respect artists and photographers to donate a work of art inspired by the natural diversity of colors and shapes found in heirloom tomatoes. Their art was displayed at the Carmel TomatoFest, and was auctioned off to raise funds for a number of youth charities.
"For more than 25 years I've been introducing people to the gardening and culinary pleasures of growing heirloom tomatoes. Through this exhibition of art, it was my intention to explore nature's deliberateness and wild folly through heirloom tomatoes as seen through the eyes of artists.
I encouraged each artist to share with us their interpretation of the visual beauty they saw in heirloom tomatoes, from classical approaches to still life or visionary interpretations, such as dreamscapes, gardenscapes, mystery, erotica or humor.
Through this showing of art I'm hoping you too will enjoy a whole new dimension of pleasure inspired by the tomato.
If you are interested in purchasing any art, you may contact the each artist directly through the link to the artist's website.
