Given to Native Seeds by a member of a family that had grown this variety for many generations in Prescott, AZ. John Upton Hays, a former AZ state Senator from Peeples Valley, loved
this tomato and grew it for 50 years, also saving seed and distributing
plants where he could. John Hays got his seeds from Dr. Bralliar, an educator and scientist from Wickenburg, Arizona who developed these tomatoes for his arid
environment. It was known that Dr. Bralliar kept a large bowl of these tomatoes on the counter in his office, and distributed seed and plants widely. A stocky indeterminate plant that produces abundant amounts of 1 3/4-inch, pink-red, oval, )plum-type) fleshy fruits with delicious slightly tart flavors. Prescott is a good choice for high altitude or cooler growing regions. A very good canning tomato or salad tomato. Excellent for eating fresh and for making a dense and delicious sauce.
